The course addresses an introduction to managed care, its philosophy, expectations and requirements, the changing role of the social work clinician, ways of continuing to work in the best interests of the client through effective treatment planning (including written examples of treatment plans), similarities and differences between agency and private practice treatment in managed care, as well as on-going survival skills needed for clinicians. Carol Curtis, CSW, (Managing in a Managed Care Environment) is a clinician and clinical supervisor with more than 20 years experience. Ms. Curtis has been responsible for clinical management, administration and supervision of licensed outpatient mental health clinics. More recently she was for several years a Clinical Supervisor, Coordinator of Services to the Russian Émigré Population, and Coordinator of Special Projects for Consulting Health Care Systems, a behavioral managed care company.
